Use PC Suite Enterprise to syncronise with Nokia phones

Friday, June 12th, 2009

There seems to be a common moaning about Nokia PC Suite not being able to replicate room information with Lotus Notes.

Wait! There is an easy solution for that. Instead of using the full edition of PC Suite you can switch over to the Nokia PC Suite Enterprise Edition.

An added bonus for system administrators is the ability to customise the package in order to enable/disable individual replication features or to pre-define one- or two way replication.

While I struggled to set-up the application on my PC using the exe installer (don’t ask, weird things happened), it is working brilliant when unpacking the msi first and running the setup via msiexec.

How to install:

Unpack package to your hard drive:

nokia_pc_suite_ee.exe /U=”C:\”

Run set-up using the LNROOMS=”1″ switch to enable room replication:

msiexec /I “nokia_pc_suite_ee.msi” LNROOMS=”1″

Edit 09/07/09: Make sure to check comment 4 on this post. Haven’t tried anything of that yet as I am not really close to a computer but it does sound quite reasonable.

IBM is obviously ceasing support for NSFDB2

what a shame:

Agreed, there is no clear statement in the document that DB2 support is going to be discontinued. But it’s definitely what I am getting between the lines.

Domain move completed

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

The domain move of www.cubetoon.com to one.com has now been completed. Considering that this is the first move I have ever initiated I was somewhat surprised by two facts.

First the time it actually takes to get the two internet service providers “speaking” with each other to initiate and complete the move. We are speaking of about one full week!

Secondly, how smooth a move is actually going. Guess the important part to keep in mind is that there will be some time, where half the world’s DNS servers will still be referring back to the old host, whereas the other half already has the new host in there records. In case of cubetoon.com this wasn’t a big deal as there are no real transactions happening. If you are however hosting a very database intensive site you may want to take this time lag into consideration.

I am moving

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I have just authorised one.com to move this domain into their space. Guess that’s one of the last steps required in order to settle permanently in New Zealand.

I would have stayed with my German provider 1&1 but unfortunately they are unable to draw the account fee from my credit card. And I don’t think maintaining a German bank account for the sole purpose of paying my ISP would make any sense.

The administrative tools at one.com are definitely a bit more basic then the once I got so used to with 1&1. But hey, I am probably not even using 10% of the functionality available but pay about double the price I will be paying at one.com after finishing the move.

Well, fingers crossed that everything works out to be alright. If this site is going down for a short while you can always vist a mirror at www.yellowwise.de.

Inspired by Alan Lepofsky I gave it a try to Wordle my CV. The result is pretty impressive as it unveils my main strengths in large letters.
