Unfortunately I haven't tested the interoperability between 8.0.2 clients and the 8.5.1 server. I can only confirm that 8.5 clients worked well with the 8.5.1 server. May I suggest setting up a test server and client in a virtual environment. Jake Howlett does have a couple of links on his blog that point you to various device emulators.

If I upgrade from 8.02 do I need to upgrade the phone client software if I upgrade Traveler to 8.5.1?
Or can I do this when the users want new functionallity?
